The work
What it is
Explainer Lab takes a Filipino question and answers it as a narrated paper-cutout film: why so many nurses are Filipino, when Filipinos first reached America, and similar questions that are usually answered badly online.
The staging is a puppet theatre: flat paper characters on a lit stage, with the camera doing the work a live-action set would do.
How it is made
Every frame is drawn in code, so a scene is data rather than a photograph. The narration is voiced with ElevenLabs and cut to the visual beats, and the finished film is published to Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.
The series is where the paper-cutout look was worked out; the same approach later became the Walang Bakante explainer reels.
What shipped
- Questions about Filipino history and society, researched first
- Paper-cutout characters drawn entirely in code
- Narrated vertically for Facebook, Instagram and TikTok
