Zero Experience Isn't a Real Category Anymore. Here's What Actually Replaced It.

Paano makakuha ng remote job na walang experience, galing pa sa Pilipinas? Wrong question. Here's what foreign employers are actually screening for right now, and how to build toward it.

"Paano ako makakakuha ng remote job kung wala akong experience?" Wrong question, and we say that with love. There's no such thing as zero experience anymore if you've shipped even one real thing. The real question is what counts as proof now, and it's not what it used to be.

The resume stopped being the proof

A foreign employer hiring remote from the Philippines can't easily verify a resume line. What they can look at directly: your GitHub, your live project, your commit history. That's not a nice-to-have anymore, for a lot of roles it's the actual application.

Ito yung game changer talaga: hindi mo na kailangan hintayin ang unang trabaho para magkaroon ng "experience." Isang tapos na project, live sa internet, may totoong desisyon ka, yun na yung experience mo sa mata ng maraming employer ngayon.

What actually gets screened for

  • A GitHub with real commits over time, not one giant "initial commit" the night before you applied.
  • The ability to explain a decision, not just describe a feature. "Why Supabase over a custom backend here" matters more than listing the stack.
  • Async communication that doesn't need hand-holding, this matters more for remote roles than in-office ones, and it's rarely taught anywhere.
  • Comfort working alongside AI coding tools without leaning on them blindly, this is newer, and it's becoming a real filter.

If you're aiming outside the usual markets

If Japan is on your radar specifically, that market has its own hiring norms and language expectations that a generic "how to get a remote job" guide won't cover. We run a dedicated international and Japan-market track precisely because that path needs different prep, not just a translated resume.

The actual starting move

Don't start with the job board. Start with one project you can point to and explain fully, front to back, out loud, to a stranger. If you can't do that yet for anything you've built, that's the actual gap to close before the applications, not more certificates.

Bring it to the Discord when it's ready, or even half-ready. Someone there has been exactly where you are.
